Join us every Friday to listen to a birth story from one of you! Each Friday, Roxanne and Gina interview one of our followers to hear their birth story. Gina and Roxanne then share some educational background on one aspect of each birth to prepare you for your own pregnancy and birth experience!
Jordin's Birth Story
Epidural Birth Story and Prenatal Anxiety
Jordin shares her pregnancy and birth story. During her pregnancy, she was dealing with some prenatal anxiety, concerned that something might be wrong with her son. Jordin shares tips on what helped her overcome her anxiety and put her mind at ease. Jordin goes on to experience a very fast labor (6 hours, total!) and with Gina by her side as doula, changes her birth plan at the hospital to opt for the epidural, which she describes as a major game changer!
Tammy's Birth Story
How Her Two Hospital Births Influence Her Birth Work
Tammy Ireland shares her two birth stories from the early 2000’s. Her first baby was a hospital birth with an epidural, Pitocin, and a provider who was completely detached and disrespectful, leaving her filled with doubt and regret. Her second birth was a much more positive hospital birth experience, and both have really shaped how Tammy approaches her birth work as a doula.

Holly shares her unmedicated hospital birth after labor induction. Holly is also going to be sharing her postpartum story, during which she developed postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis that did results in an inpatient psychiatric treatment. Holly did opt to receive inpatient psychiatric treatment, and she is now thriving in motherhood!

Angela shares about her first birth, a Cesarean birth, and how she then went on to have a VBAC (or a vaginal birth after C-section) for her second birth. Angela was really passionate about wanting to share her story because she had a really positive C-section experience, and she wanted others to know that it is possible to have a good experience, even with something that can feel scary, like a Cesarean birth!

Sally's Birth Story
Surprise Breech
Sally discovers during her labor induction that her baby is breech and is rushed back for a Cesarean section. After her sudden C-section birth, Sally decides she wants a vaginal birth after C-section (VBAC) with her second baby. She hires Gina to be her doula, and wants to labor at home as long as possible before heading to the nearby hospital. Sally arrives at the hospital at 7-8 centimeters and has her VBAC!
Lauren's Birth Story

In this birth story, Lauren shares her second birth where she discovers her baby is breech near the end of her pregnancy. Lauren was planning a birth at a freestanding birth center, but scrambled to find a new provider that would support a vaginal breech birth!

Audrey's Birth Story
Breech Baby and Two Planned C-Sections
Audrey found out that her baby was breech, and after an unsuccessful. ECV, she opted have a scheduled Cesarean birth. At four months postpartum, she found out that she was pregnant with her second child, so she opted for another schedule Cesarean birth (which was a very different experience from her first!).
Molly's Birth Story
Unmedicated Birth at a Freestanding Birth Center
In Molly’s birth story, she had a “retained placenta” and because of some risk factors that she had during pregnancy with anemia, they took more of an active management approach to delivering her placenta in order to minimize the amount of postpartum bleeding that she was having so that she didn’t have complications associated with her anemia.

Hospital Births With an Epidural vs IV Pain Meds
Mary shares her two birth stories and the differences in pain management techniques. Her first birth was an induction at 41 weeks with an epidural leading to a vaginal birth. Her second was unmedicated after spontaneous labor, where she received IV pain relief. We discuss what Mary wished she knew about IV pain relief and the effects that it can have on baby.

Ashley's Home Births
One of Gina's doula clients, Ashley, will be sharing her two home birth stories.
Ashley shares how her first birth was a precipitous labor, which left her feeling like she didn’t get to enjoy her birth and felt out of control. Due to COVID fears and protocols, Ashley and her husband made a last minute switch to a home birth with Gina and a midwife. Her second birth, was planned to be a home birth from the start, was much slower, and she was able to experience both the prenatal and labor experiences in a new way.
Raquel's Birth Story

Join us as Raquel shares her birth story! In this episode, Raquel shares her home-birth after Cesarean (HBAC) with a planned vaginal breech birth, attended by Dr Stu of Birthing Instincts. Raquel shares her four birth stories. Her very first one was a scheduled C-section due to breech positioning when she was 19 years old. Her next baby was head down, but she also scheduled another C-section.

She developed gestational hypertension towards the end of her pregnancy, which required a medical induction. Roxanne explains gestational hypertension, how it is diagnosed, and why it can be a serious complication of pregnancy.
Annie's Birth Story
Breech Positioning, Successful ECV, and Complications Leading to A Positive C-Section
Join us as Annie shares her birth story! In today’s birth story, Annie will be sharing her story of how she planned for an unmedicated, vaginal birth at a midwife-run birth center, but ended up being transferred to a hospital and ultimately needing a C-section. In her third trimester, Annie found out her baby was breech, had a successful ECV, developed some complications towards the end of her pregnancy that required her to change her birthing location and plan, but thanks to a supportive and communicative team, she had a positive Cesarean birth experience!
Mackenzie's Birth Story
Breech, ECV, and Prenatal Transfer of Care from a Freestanding Birth Center to Hospital Birth
Mackenzie shares her birth story! Mackenzie was planning a birth at a freestanding birth center, but found out that her baby was breech! The birth center could not support a breech vaginal birth, so Mackenzie transferred care to a local hospital in hopes that an ECV would flip baby head down. And it worked! Mackenzie transferred back to her birth center, but after her water broke without labor progressing, she found herself back at the hospital to have her unmedicated vaginal birth!
