Surprise! Roxanne is Pregnant with Baby #4!!!

Welcome back to the MamasteFit blog! I’m thrilled (and still slightly in shock) to share some exciting news from the MamasteFit team: Roxanne is pregnant—again! Yes, you read that right. Just when we thought the era of MamasteFit babies was coming to a close, the universe had other plans.

This week’s podcast episode was all about Roxanne’s surprise pregnancy, how she found out, how she and her husband reacted, and how she’s coping with the whirlwind of emotions and nausea. As her business partner and sister, I got to witness the unfolding drama from the front row, and now we’re sharing it all with you.

A Surprise Announcement—With Line Eyes and All

It all began with a simple text. We were supposed to collaborate on a brand partnership that required someone with a menstrual cycle. Roxanne backed out with a vague, “I don’t think I can do it anymore…” and immediately, I texted her, “Are you pregnant?” and in true Roxanne fashion, she responded with a photo of a very clear pregnancy test… and still said, “I don’t know, I might have line eyes.”

Let me tell you, every. single. pregnancy. she’s done this. Digital test says “Pregnant”? She questions it. Bright pink lines? She doubts it. But yes—Roxanne is 100% pregnant.

From Denial to Acceptance: A Rollercoaster of Emotions

When Roxanne realized she was late, she instinctively told Patrick he needed to schedule his vasectomy ASAP. After a whirlwind of at-home testing, including a moment where Patrick asked, “Does two lines mean we’re good?” (yes, good and pregnant), the reality hit. That night, they held hands in bed, processing the future they thought was coming—and the new one unfolding before them.

Initially, the emotions were overwhelming. Grief for the imagined future of three kids, personal space, vacations without strollers. But slowly, over the weeks, acceptance and excitement started to bloom.

Choosing a Home Birth—A Big Shift for Roxanne

Perhaps the biggest surprise wasn’t just the pregnancy—it was Roxanne’s decision to plan a home birth. As a labor and delivery nurse and student midwife, she’s always leaned hospital. But working closely with a home birth midwife and experiencing the emotional connection and autonomy in that setting shifted her perspective.

Her biggest fear? Bleeding, something she’s experienced more of in past births. But this time, she feels more empowered by the evidence, her provider’s support, and her own birth experiences to trust in the safety of a home birth.

The Impact on Career and Life Plans

Roxanne had a five-year plan: graduate midwifery school, pass boards, take a few months off, then begin practicing. Baby #4 had other ideas. Now she’s navigating how to integrate a newborn into her growing career, manage childcare for four, and continue being a central part of MamasteFit.

For now, she’s taking it one day at a time.

Processing Pregnancy Differently This Time

One of the most beautiful takeaways from Roxanne’s story is the importance of how we respond to someone’s pregnancy news. For birth workers and close friends, it’s not always, “Congratulations!” Sometimes it’s, “How are you feeling?” or “What do you need right now?”

Roxanne shared how meaningful it was to have people give her space to process, grieve, and ultimately get excited. Because while this pregnancy was unexpected, it was never unloved.

Dealing with First Trimester Woes

This pregnancy is hitting Roxanne hard in the nausea department. She’s surviving on potatoes and pasta, and certain routines—like brushing her tongue—are off-limits unless she wants to risk vomiting.

What’s helping? Needed’s collagen protein in her coffee (on the days she remembers). She’s also adding in magnesium from Needed’s Sleep & Relaxation formula to help with evening nausea. And yes, she’s still taking her prenatals, as tolerated.

Final Thoughts: This Baby Wasn’t Planned, But Is Deeply Loved

We may joke, but this little baby is already part of the MamasteFit family. Roxanne, Patrick, and the kids have processed, adjusted, and are now excited for this next chapter.

The journey ahead includes a home birth, career pivots, and adjusting to life as a family of six. It also includes lots of laughter, community, and of course, more MamasteFit updates as Roxanne’s pregnancy progresses.
